2005-10-20

We introduced Marit to the game.

  1. 02:28 - Jay is surprised to be the first one out.
  2. 02:55 - Due to mostly lack of luck, Marit goes bankrupt.
  3. 03:51 - After an amazing run of luck, Hixie finally goes bankrupt on Illinois.
  4. 04:09 - Kerz and Pav agree to ignore the properties returned to the bank, possibly not to Pav's benefit as he gives up since Kerz is doing better.
  5. "Hard core to the end" says Kerz. He claims his net worth was $14000.

2005-05-04

A random game with some new players.

  1. 01:25 - Chase leaves the game by selling everything to a last-place Jay.
  2. 02:21 - Hixie fails to do much with his one yellow property: even after getting the other two to form a monopoly, his income can't overcome his debts.
  3. 02:25 - Despite Chase's big capital investment earlier in the game, Jay fails to get anywhere.
  4. 02:33 - Bryner (represented by Pav) goes out.
  5. 02:33 - Leslie decides to call it quits.
  6. 02:33 - Ben follows suit.
  7. Jason wins by default.

2004-10-27

No cash-back on free parking, leading to a very cash-strapped game.

  1. 00:45 - After ending up with just the greens and dark blues (rent-shared with Jason), Hixie landed on Jay's orange property (rent-shared with Ben) and found himself with a $500 debt even after unmortgaging everything. Good bye!
  2. 00:55 - Ben quit to give a profile migration bug.
  3. 01:03 - Jason landed on an orange, just like Hixie.
  4. 01:05 - David goes out: the oranges again!
  5. 01:15 - Bryner goes boom. End of game.
  6. A quick game, a quick win for Jay!

2004-05-28

The first game for a long time! And we were straight back into deal hell.

Going around the board in clockwise order around half way through the game: the ghetto properties were owned by Pavlov who was obligated to give half of any theoretical revenue to Hixie (that is, even if he missed the rent call or was in jail), with a deal requiring that he get permission from Hixie before selling any houses, mortgaging the properties, or trading them. The railroads were owned by Jason with a 50% rent-sharing deal with no trade restrictions. The light blues were owned by Jason who got them in a controversial deal when Pavlov nearly went out of the game, two of the pinks were owned by Jay but with an agreement with Jason that whenever anyone other than Jay or Jason lands on the pinks when the pinks are all owned by the same person, Jay has to pay Jason half the theoretical income (even if he doesn't own it!). The utilities were all owned by Hixie (the only natural monopoly). The oranges were spread about originally but eventually all owned by Hixie with a deal with Jay similar to the other deal mentioned above, except with an additional clause that if Hixie became close to bankruptcy, he would sell the houses and give the properties to Jay. The reds were owned by Jay with a pretty standard rent sharing deal with Jason. The yellows were owned by Jason but with the reverse of the pink deal, with Jay. The greens were owned by David but with a deal with Hixie whereby Hixie got half the theoretical payments.

The blues were for a long time owned by Hixie and Jason with no deal, but eventually Jason convinced Hixie to get a standard rent sharing deal on them, and the ghettos were by then owned by Hixie with a similar rent sharing deal with Jason. For most of built-up stage of the game, the houses and hotels were in high demand and carefully rationed by the few who had built in time.

  1. 00:30 - Ben bows out, sending everything back to the bank, after deciding that he didn't get anywhere near enough during the first few rounds of property purchases.
  2. 04:10 - After a slow death with some high profile but ultimately useless deals with some of the other players, Pavlov betrayed everyone with a nasty deal with Jason that resulted in Jason getting ownership of the light blues in a rent-share deal with Jay.
  3. 05:00 - David survived a long time with just his green monopoly before being squeezed for his last cent, again by Jason.
  4. 05:30 - In a new twist, Jay was the one who caused Hixie to drop out of the game, with a nickel-and-dime approach that ended with the pinks.
  5. 06:05 - Jay finally succumbed to the unstoppable Jason after the game reached a stage where the only properties that were actually relevant to the game were the ghettos and blues (owned by Jason due to deals with Hixie), the greens (owned by Jason as a natural monopoly!) and the oranges (owned by Jay).
  6. Jason was therefore the winner!

2001-08-07

The most utterly confusing game as far as deals go... and the only game where one of the properties (The Electric Company) was never visited until after two of the players had left the game.

  1. 21:57 - Chad flatlined after only owning one property for the whole game.
  2. 22:19 - Hixie lands on Boardwalk for the third time, taking all the life out of him. A previous landing had caused Jay to save him, in order to hurt Jason and Claudius, who, through some screwy deal, had got themselves into a position of owing Hixie $155 for each round. (Hixie also had some unequal profit sharing deals with Pav (involving a quarter of the railroads profits) and with Jay (involving some 150:100 and 250:200 deals on the ghettos)... but his most profitable income, oddly enough, was waterworks.)
  3. 22:55 - Pavlov says: Whatever.
  4. 00:01 - After living a quiet life organising deals and spending some time in jail, Claudius proceeded to do his best Rasputan impression and after surviving 3 bankrupcies finally succombed to Jay's damn ghetto properties, but not before shifting the balance of power to Jason in a (futile) effort to try and steal second place.
  5. 00:40 - Finally the game was over for Jay...
  6. ...and it was a win at last for Jason!

2001-07-03

The game where Kerz was stressed the whole time. Wait, that doesn't actually narrow it down much, does it...

  1. 21:10 - Blake is out of the game.
  2. 22:10 - Hixie (in Sue's body...) leaves the game an hour later.
  3. 23:10 - An hour after that, Bradley is forced to leave through not having any money.
  4. 23:20 - Chad leaves the game 10 minutes later.
  5. 01:30 - Dan forfeited with $8000 and Hotels on the Yellows and the Ghettos.
  6. Jason (in Jag's body) was pronounced victorious through a stroke of luck (and $24000).

2001-06-19

The biggest game ever — 9 players!!!

  1. 21:27 - Chad is the first out of the game after listening to Jay's advice.
  2. 21:29 - In the same round, Jason is the next one to go!
  3. 22:07 - Coming next after owning only one property for the whole game, Blake!
  4. 22:26 - Hixie then loses, proud to have lasted that long!
  5. 22:28 - Only a few minutes later, Pavlov is forced out of the game, the last remaining player to never get a monopoly!
  6. 00:54 - Tony later retires due to the late hour.
  7. 01:00 - And Bradley quickly follows, retiring despite having $12400 in cash and the Boardwalk monopoly.
  8. 01:40 - Not willing to bear the same of breaking down the hotels of his one and only monopoly ever in this game, Claudius concedes to Jay who had gathered 4 monopolies and $15000.
  9. Jay is the winner of the biggest game yet!

2001-06-12

Another seven player game.

  1. 21:10 - Chad goes out with no properties after selling his only property to Hixie for a dollar.
  2. 21:14 - Despite nastily screwing jag, Hixie could not escape the bad luck and went out shortly after Chad.
  3. 21:27 - Blake had an extremely unlucky start, landing in jail multiple times before passing Go, and therafter not landing on any properties. Quite similar to jag the previous week in fact — are new players cursed??
  4. 21:47 - Jag, in spite of complaining about Hixie's underhanded dealing, managed to get a respectable fourth place, improving his score dramatically from the previous week.
  5. 21:59 - Jason hung out all the way to third place, but could not manage better.
  6. 23:15 - Pavlov was finally beaten by Bradley, who clearly had been training since the previous week.
  7. Third time lucky for Bradley!

2001-06-05

A seven player game, the biggest ever in fact. One with many deals going on, although the game ended up being a team-against-team effort at the end. This game also marks the start of our keeping the house rules file in CVS...

  1. 20:38 - After two stints in Jail before passing Go, and a subsequent round of extremely bad luck which never involved ownership of any property, jag goes bankrupt.
  2. 21:21 - Claudius follows just under an hour later, having also hit jail twice at the start of the game but at least owning properties.
  3. 21:35 - Hixie leaves the game, back to his normal position of 5th.
  4. 21:58 - Bradley was always in a precarious position and finally toppled a few minutes later.
  5. 22:10 - Jason, who was proudly profit sharing with Pavlov, finally got bankrupted by him too, despite having made a deal involving accepting 2nd place should he and Pavlov be the only remaining players.
  6. 23:12 - Chad managed an impressive 2nd, which can be attributed first to his great skills in determining what parts of Jay's advice were bullshit and which parts were reasonable, and then to his great skill at managing properties.
  7. Pavlov wins with $20,053 plus hotels on the greens, red, purples and violets. And the railroads.

2001-05-29

The coming of The Interns.

  1. 22:00 - In an unusual move, Pavlov manages to lose first!
  2. 22:06 - Bradley comes in 3rd in his first game!
  3. Jason is weak and gives up.
  4. Hixie wins!!!!!!!! Yes!! It happened!!!

2001-05-22

All that is recorded about this game is that "21:45 - Hixie has the absolute worst luck ever!". However, seeing jag's luck in the 2001-06-05 game, this point is probably arguable.

2001-05-15

  1. 21:50 - Jay

2001-03-20

  1. 21:14 - Hixie out.
  2. 21:46 - Jay.
  3. 22:10 - Pavlov.
  4. Jason agreed to second place.
  5. Claudius wins.

2001-02-20

This game had very loose deal rules, resulting in one big mess of a game: Jay shared the reds with kerz, who shared the ghetto properties with Jay, who owned the light blues. Claudius profit shared the blues with kerz and the trains with Tony, who only owned the utilities. Hixie, who as usual wasn't doing very well, was sharing the yellows with Claudius.

  1. 23:00 - Anthony is fooked by Claudius.
  2. 23:15 - Hixie loses his last dollar to Jason.
  3. 01:40 - Jason loses to Jay.
  4. 02:15 - Jay loses to Claudius.
  5. Claudius wins!

2001-01-18

Game started at 19:20. (Note: I am unsure about the scores for this game.)

  1. 21:43 - Jay bankrupted by Jason (and Hixie)
  2. 22:33 - Hixie out
  3. 23:06 - kerz quits for c&c
  4. Claudius wins!

2001-01-04

  1. 22:00 - Hixie is bankrupted by Dan.
  2. 23:21 - Dan goes out.
  3. Shortly afterwards, Jason leaves the game, after Jay paid $2000 to keep the light blues from him.
  4. Jay wins.

2000-12-14

A 19:15 start, leading on to:

  1. 21:27 - Dan goes home due to not feeling well.
  2. 22:37 - Jay takes 3rd place after a long fight to survive with only the baby blue ghetto properties and 3 railroads.
  3. 23:30 - Jason is a wuss and gives up.
  4. Hixie wins by default with $7,500!

2000-12-07

This game started around 19:00. A straight forward game, with the results as follows:

  1. 20:50 - Jay gave everything to Jason after getting an advance to boardwalk chance card.
  2. 21:26 - Stuart died from the black plague.
  3. 22:05 - Jason lands on a nsaty red property owned by Claudius.
  4. 22:31 - Hixie collapsed on Boardwalk!
  5. Claudius wins!

2000-11-30 (a)

This game started at 19:40. We dealt out the properties evenly (paying for each), and then jumped straight into negotiations.

Heavy negotiations occurred between 20:15 and 20:30.

  1. 20:45 - Hixie sold out to Pavlov at 20:45, probably a record time for leaving the game.
  2. 22:00 - Pavlov then died at 10:00.
  3. 22:06 - Jay, 10:06.
  4. 22:12 - Jason, 10:12.
  5. Dan won again. CONGRATULATIONS! NOT!

2000-11-30 (b)

This game started at 23:30. A proper game. By our rules of course! :-)

  1. 12:30 - Hixie goes bankrupt again. Hixie clearly just sucks at this game.
  2. 12:48 - Pavlov is bankrupted by Jason.
  3. 01:16 - Jay is out.
  4. And the winner is.... Jason!

2000-11-16

The game started at 19:25 and lasted so long half the players were asleep before the end of the game.

  1. 23:58 - Jay argued himself out of the game at 23:58 (although the argument ended at 00:04).
  2. 00:28 - Pavlov went bankrupt but very cleverly avoided helping Dan at all at 00:28.
  3. 00:14 - Claudius sold out to Dan at 12:14, but didn't go bankrupt until 00:57 when he landed on Marvin Gardens.
  4. 01:14 - Sudden death at 01:14 for Hixie when, once again, Dan bankrupted someone on Marvin Gardens.
  5. 03:45 - Jason (in the body of Pavlov) finally lost at 03:45.
  6. Dan was heralded the undisputed winner after a gruelling 8 hours and 20 minutes.

2000-11-09

The game started around 19:00.

  1. 23:13 - Jason gave up again, getting nearly bankrupted at 22:23 but lasting until 23:13 through some charity from Jay.
  2. 23:27 - Dan had to sacrifice his railroads at 23:27 after several bad deals.
  3. 01:10 - Hixie came fourth, slowly losing all his cash and finally going bankrupt at 01:10.
  4. 01:16 - Pavlov came third, finally selling out to Claudius at 01:16.
  5. 01:30 - Claudius came second, playing the entire game with only one monopoly, and leaving us at 01:30. (Quite how he managed to get over $7000 profits without owning anything more than the light blue properties is a mistery. He claims it is because nobody would ever deal with him...)
  6. Jay won, again owning almost all the monopolies and over 10 grand.

2000-11-02

Still Jay's board. The game lasted 6 hours and 15 minutes. It started at 19:15.

  1. 22:22 - Jay came last, after landing in jail at the start even more often than Jason did the week before! First casualty: 22:22.
  2. 00:00 - Jason gave up, selling his few measely properties to Pavlov for $1, at 00:00.
  3. 00:06 - Claudius came fourth, putting up a valiant battle with his three houses, and leaving us at 00:06.
  4. 01:25 - Hixie came third, after hanging in there with only three hotels and the railroads for most of the game. Time of death: 01:25.
  5. 01:35 - Pavlov came second, finally losing his green properties at 01:35.
  6. Dan massacred everyone despite our best efforts to the contrary.

2000-10-26

Jay's board. The game lasted around 4 hours.

  1. Hixie came last, after the second worst start ever.
  2. Claudius came fourth, after landing on Jay's properties once to many.
  3. Jason came third, after the worst start ever.
  4. Dan came second, after a long hard fight.
  5. Jay won, owning most of the monopolies and several thousand dollars in liquid.

The Cash Stash

This is the high score table of the top three amounts of cash (liquid, not in properties, etc) that the winners have had at the end of games. Note that the game we played where the pot was reseeded with $500 instead of $100 is no longer on this high score table... having more players apparently has a greater effect on the amount of money in the game than the pot.

  1. Dan: $24,600 (2000-11-16) 1
  2. Bradley: $21,900 (2001-06-12) 2
  3. Pavlov: $20,053 (2001-06-05) 2

1: The pot was being reseeded with $100 each time.

2: The pot was being reseeded with $100 each time and "Go" gained you $300 if you landed on it.

By popular demand we're also recording the high scores for games where there was no seeding and no special Go money (since the first 2004 game):

  1. Jason: $14,293 (2004-06-28)
